Stratford-upon-Avon's Hidden Gem

Our history

Voted No.1 Fringe Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon

The Attic Theatre was first established in 2009 by Tread the Boards, an award winning theatre Company.

Riverside venue

This unique theatre is located on the banks of the River Avon, in the heart of Shakespeares' birth town. It's right next door to the Cox's Yard bar, restaurant and coffee shop - a perfect place to go pre or post theatre.

15th Century architecture

The Attic is a unique space being housed in a Grade 2 listed building. The timber yard 'Cox's Yard' was originally built in the 15th century - making The Attic the oldest theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon. The beautiful oak beams and eaves from the original structure can still be seen in the auditorium today.

Small and perfectly formed

The theatre itself seats 89. This makes for a very personal performance and audiences thoroughly enjoy the closeness this theatre brings.

Award winning shows

The Attic Theatre continues to score a fabulous five stars on Trip Advisor with extremely positive reviews from over one hundred happy theatre goers. The Theatre company, Tread the Boards have won 'Best Childrens Show' and finished runners up in the 'Primary Times Childrens Choice Award' for their production of 'Peter Pan' at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2015. The company also won 'Arts Organisation of the Year' and 'Team of the Year' at the Pride of Stratford Awards 2016.

The venue and shows are run by John-Robert Partridge and Catherine Prout, founders of Tread the Boards.
